I have been making things from about the age of two. Inspired by my mother Louise, an accomplished painter, I have always known my path in life was a creative one. It never really felt like a choice, rather what makes me feel alive and part of the world.
I received a BFA in painting and graphics from James Madison University in 1977, and an MFA in fine art photography from California Institute of the Arts (CAL ARTS) in 1981. From 1983-1996 I worked in the film industry in Visual Effects Animation on films such as Braveheart, Ghost, and James and the Giant Peach, with my last stint at Buena Vista Visual Effects of Disney Studios. In 1996 I left the film industry to illustrate children's books. I have illustrated seven books for major publishers including Jake Johnson, the Story of a Mule, Tessa's Tip-Tapping Toes, and Saving the Liberty Bell, to name a few. From 1990-2009 I created for and co-owned the greeting card company mjZOOM that sold nationwide and abroad.
After living in Los Angeles, CA for thirty years, my husband Kevin and I moved to the small town of Sandusky, Ohio in 2009 to be closer to family, both in Ohio and Virginia. It has been very rewarding to live in this small town that is going through an exciting re-birth of it's own, where I enjoy being involved in my community, which includes being a commissioner for Sandusky Public Art and Culture, and a board member of the Sandusky Cultural Center. I am also an honory member of the Greater Port Clinton Arts Association and involved with the Great Lakes Visual and Performing Arts Academy.
My working studio and gallery Carrington Arts are located in downtown Sandusky and overlook the Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie. It is truly my home away from home. The gallery exhibits my own work as well as other artists in group and solo shows. Although I have worked my entire adult life in a variety of creative fields, I believe it is my time to concentrate on my love of fine art, as I continue my artistic journey creating paintings, drawings and photography.
My art business has been designated as a "Trusted Art Seller" with The Art Storefronts Organization, which means you can shop with confidence, and know that I stand behind the quality and value of my products.
